Fashion for hope
In October of 2016, we had our Fashion for Hope fundraiser for Hope Academy School. It was a fun evening of food, friends and fashion. Local boutiques showed their latest in fall trends for women and children. Bistro 28 at the Athetic Club of Bend so kindly sponsored the event by providing wonderful appetizers and the perfect venue.
Guatemala 2016
Our 2016 trip had a medical focus. Our team doctor and nurse were able to see many children who have no access to medical help. We purchased vitamins and medicine for the children and set up a clinic in their remote community. Once again we helped build a school playground so the children can get our of the dirt and mud. Our teens organized some fun crafts and played games with the children as well.
At Hogar Miguel Magone Orphanage we were able to meet more of the girls who will be attending Hope Academy and visited the beautiful site of the school.
On this trip we were able to visit the Mayan ruins of Tikal with such amazing beauty and history.

Hearts for hope- february 2016
We had over 100 people at the Oxford Hotel, enjoying a fun night of fabulous food, dancing and bidding. Precious Byrd was a huge hit and we were able to raise over $13,000 for Hope Academy. Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support us on our first annual event. We look forward to next year. Stay tuned.
The night wouldn't have been a success without the generous support of our wonderful sponsors and auction donors. Click here to view sponsor list.

guatemala 2015
A group of 20 from Bend traveled to Guatemala with Food for the Hungry in July. Again, we visited the Hogar Miguel Magone where we played with the children and served lunch to them. We delivered the shoes that our friends from Bend had donated for our trip along with some medicines that the orphanage had requested. Touring the local community from which many girls live, we were able to see the lack of basic needs that are available to them. It is there that we met with the Tree for Hope group and learned of their plans to build a girls school to help end the cycle of poverty.
In the beautiful, lush hills of the country, we spent four days in the community of Chitepey. We were created by the children holding American and Guatemalan flags that hey had made. The 17 teenagers on our team hauled wheel barrel after wheel barrel full of dirt to help this gracious community build a sport court for the children. We went on many home visits during our time in this community and learned about their lives and the many challenges they are faced with daily. This was very eyeopening for our youth from Bend Oregon. The hope is that seeds were planted in their hearts that will bloom into something beautiful in their lives. The women of the community taught us how to make corn tortillas one an open fire - they were so delicious!
Our last stop was to return to Sacampana to see the Medical clinic that we helped with the summer of 2014. It was so wonderful to see the the families again. We were part of an opening celebration of the clinic and were served fresh tamales. To wrap up the trip, we spent two days in Antigua which is always a treat. Everyone was able to bring home some Guatemalan made items and we enjoyed some good Guatemalan food.
As always, we loved being in this beautiful country and spending time with all the amazing people we met there. We especially thank our fabulous FH team leaders and drivers!
And thanks to all of the wonderful people who supported us by purchasing coffee and donating towards our trip.

Guatemala 2014
Branches from Bend's first trip took place as we partnered with Food for the Hungry and traveled with 3 adults and 7 teens to Guatemala. There we visited the remote Mayan community of Sacampana and helped with the construction of the much needed medical center. We hauled buckets of sand up a hill (more of a mountain, really!) as the community began the construction process. All the work in the community is done by hand without the use of heavy equipment or electrical tools. It was amazing to watch the people happily work together to complete what to us seemed like such an enormous challenge. Our youth loved on and played games with the beautiful children there. They organized and led a vacation bible school for the children complete with lessons, crafts, singing and dancing. We all fell in love the people of this community as we learned about their culture and way of life.
Before our trip we spent months fundraising in order to provide the funds for the medical center. We picked up trash at Summerfest, sold coffee, baked and sold cookies, painted faces and sold items made in Guatemala. Friends form Bend donated 3 large suitcases filled with shoes, socks, underwear and toys, which we brought to an orphanage in Guatemala City.
Our teens were inspired by this trip in so many ways such as being grateful for what they have been blessed with, wanting to live their lives in ways that make a difference and experiencing the great joy you receive by helping others.
We are so thankful for the opportunity to visit this beautiful country and the people there will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Thank you to all those who made the trip possible by supporting us in so many ways. Your donations, purchases and volunteering of time and services were greatly appreciated!
